Synopsis: Virtual environment (VE) platforms in online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic experienced by Dr. Mores will be shared in this session. First, he will discuss the challenges in using traditional video meeting platforms such as WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. Then, presenting how emerging shared VE platforms such as Mozilla Hubs and Virbela Frame could improve user engagement and teaching and learning experiences, as well as their limitations. Afterward, he discusses feedback from students and instructors. Lastly, his plan on comparing the use of multiple such VE platforms in a variety of computer science subjects.
Bio:
Dr. Mores Prachyabrued is the director of ImmerSense Laboratory at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at Mahidol University and the chair of MS in Game Technology and Gamification Program. His research has focused on virtual environments, 3D interaction, immersive visualizations, and entertainment computing. He has delivered on several research grants totaling over THB 15M. He received a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2013. Afterward, he joined the Faculty of ICT and served as the Assistant Dean for Digital Media Technology and Learning from 2014 to 2017.
